Recreation Installations Announces All-Inclusive Playground Project in Mt. Vernon, Missouri
MT. VERNON, Mo., March 27, 2026 — Recreation Installations is partnering with the City of Mt. Vernon to develop a new all-inclusive playground at Spirit of 76 Park, creating a welcoming and accessible space for children of all abilities.
The project will include an all-inclusive playground expansion with accessible surfacing at 400 N Main St. The 6,815-square-foot project represents a total investment of $343,656.
A groundbreaking ceremony is scheduled for March 31, 2026, at 11:30 a.m. Local school children, Chamber of Commerce members and city staff are invited to attend. Light refreshments will be served.
The playground is designed to provide inclusive play opportunities through accessible poured-in-place surfacing and a wide range of features, including slides, swings, climbing elements and wheelchair-accessible ramps. Additional inclusive elements include musical instruments, a wheelchair-accessible swing and a merry-go-round, allowing children of all abilities to play together. Shade structures and surrounding benches will enhance comfort for families and caregivers.
City Administrator Robert Harrington emphasized the project’s importance to the community.
“This playground isn’t just a playground—it’s a statement that in Mt. Vernon, we care about all of our citizens. Everything we do reflects our commitment to every resident. This project represents the love we have for our community and the children who live and play here. Together, we are all Mtneers.”
City officials anticipate the playground will serve as a catalyst for future park improvements while creating a space where children of all abilities can connect, play and grow together.
The project was made possible through the leadership of the Mt. Vernon Board of Aldermen, the vision of Max Springer through the 2026 Progress You Can See Program and the continued support of the citizens of Mt. Vernon.
The initiative began Oct. 10, 2025, when Max Springer connected with Recreation Installations to bring the City’s vision to life. The selected site offers a flat and accessible location, surrounded by a sidewalk and close to parking.
Recreation Installations designed the playground to include engaging activities, shade roofs on the structure and, at Max Springer’s suggestion, four shade-covered benches to improve comfort and usability. In early December, the project team met with City Administrator Robert Harrington and Mayor Jason Haymes to align on the project’s development and community impact.
“Our passion is bringing playground visions to life,” said Candra Grider, co-owner of Recreation Installations. “There’s nothing more rewarding than seeing a space transformed into a place where children of all abilities can play together.”
Construction of the playground is expected to take approximately four to six weeks with favorable weather conditions. Stay tuned for grand opening details.
